Devon Allman and Blue Cheer on Next Dave White Presents!

Southern Rock with Devon Allman, Summertime Blues with Blue Cheer on the Next "Dave White Presents"!

Back in 1968, a power trio called Blue Cheer topped the charts with their interpretation of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues." Decades later, that band and their song have frequently been singled out as being predecessors to all things hard rock and heavy metal.

This year, Blue Cheer Rocks Europe, recorded in 2008, is a new CD testament to how vital Blue Cheer remained until the 2009 death of its main motor, bassist and lead singer Dicke Peterson. At the time, the trio also included original drummer Paul Whaley and the group's longest running guitarist, Andrew "Duck" MacDonald.

On Tues. May 21, Duck stops by DWP to talk about the legacy of Blue Cheer, his friendship with Dickie Peterson, fan responses over the years, and the importance of a little song that was a hit for Eddie Cochran, The Who, and Blue Cheer. We'll also play you a previously unreleased studio track that MacDonald calls the groups reply to "Summertime Blues," a rockabilly jumper you've likely never heard before!

Yep, Devon Allman has quite a pedigree. His Dad is Gregg, his uncle was Duane. Last year, Devon made quite a splash as part of the blues/rock "Supergroup," Royal Southern Brotherhood. If you haven't checked them out, you're missing a seriously tight outfit.

This year, Allman has been earning critical raves for his sizzlin' debut solo album, Turquoise. On his own terms, he's proving to be a triple threat as a soulful singer, fiery guitarist, and autobiographical songwriter. Learn all about it in an absorbing conversation Devon shares with Wes Britton delving deep into a bluesy family tradition, the origins of Royal Southern Brotherhood, and the stories behind the songs on Turquoise. Yep, we got two samples from Turquoise to demonstrate Devon has more than a pretty name!

All this plus some (we promise) surprising predictably unpredictable humor on Tues., May 21 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--

http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, on Wed.
The Walking Dead, Grateful Dead, and Maverick on Next Dave White Presents!

The Walking Dead, The Grateful Dead, and Maverick come together on the Next "Dave White Presents"!

You know it's true—zombies are everywhere. Some call it the Zombie Renaissance, some the Zombie Apocalypse. Recent film titles include Zombie Strippers, Zombie Alligators, and Abraham Lincoln v. Zombies. Go online, and you can see Doctor Who's Karen Gillan doing parody ads for zombie hair and skin care.

Much of the blame for all these legions of the undead goes to Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead graphic novels and monster hit TV series. No one knows more about all this than Jay Bonansinga, the author Kirkman tapped to team with him to write a trilogy of Walking Dead novels.

On Tues. May 7, Jay joins Wes Britton to talk all things zombie, from working with Kirkman, to how his first two Woodberry novels were crafted, to why there's so much popular fascination with zombies, to clues as to what's coming next in the Kirkman universe.

Speaking of hit TV shows, from 1957 to 1962, Maverick was a ratings king on Sunday nights. James Garner was Bret Maverick, Roger Moore was cousin Beau, and, very briefly, Robert Colbert was brother Brent. But only one Maverick was there from beginning to end, namely Jack Kelly as brother Bart.

Beyond Maverick, as Linda Alexander, author of A Maverick Life: The Jack Kelly Story will tell you, Kelly was more than a female fans delight on the comic Western. For example, as a child star, Kelly worked with Mickey Rooney and Audie Murphey. He was in Forbidden Planet with Leslie Nielsen. For decades, he worked on nearly every episodic series on television. So Linda's conversation with Dave White should get you reaching for a deck of cards, get you singing the famous theme, and perhaps get you reading a copy of her highly-regarded biography as well!

Then, back in the'60s, the Grateful Dead were in the thick of all things sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll. A key member of their entourage was the legendary Owsley "Bear" Stanley, the pioneering sound engineer who broke new ground in recording live music. Oh yea, he was equally famous for cooking the best LSD of the period.

Someone who saw and experienced it all was Rhoney Gissen Stanley, author of the new Owsley and Me: My LSD Family. Rhoney was with Bear in the chemical lab and backstage at Monterey Pop, Woodstock, and Altamont. So we're traveling back in time to the epicenter of West Coast psychedelia with someone who looks back on it all with great affection.

So zombies, hippies, and Mavericks come together on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, on Wed.
Canned Heat an History of Drums on Next Dave White Presents!

We're beating the Skins with Canned Heat and the History of Drums on the Next Dave White Presents!

Once upon a time, Canned Heat were not only the Kings of the Boogie" with hits like "On the Road Again" and "Let's Work Together," they were headline acts at festivals like Monterey Pop and Woodstock. In fact, "Going Up the Country," written and sung by Alan Wilson, became the unofficial theme song for Michael Wadleigh's Woodstock documentary.

Ironically, guitarist and singer Wilson, known as the "Blind Owl," died on Sept. 3, 1970, just months away from the deaths of fellow Woodstock luminaries Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Tragically, all three became members of the "27 Club," meaning musicians who died at that age including Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain, and Robert Johnson.

On Tues. April 23, the longest continuing member of Canned Heat, drummer Adolfo "Fito" de la Parra, comes to DWP to remember the glory years of his band and discuss the brand new two CD set, The Blind Owl: a tribute to Alan Wilson. The new collection not only highlights the Heat's blues and psychedelic boogies, but Wilson's social commentary on albums like the legendary Future Blues as well. What was it like to work with, and impress, John Lee Hooker? What's Canned Heat up to now? Fito will tell you all about it.

As it happens, Fito de la Parra isn't the only drummer beating away on the next DWP! Stickman, educator, and author Daniel Glass has some fascinating insights into his two-DVD set, The Century Project: 100 Years of American Music from Behind the Drums. The DVDs are a detailed and tasty history lesson about U.S. music from 1865 to 1965 showing how, as drums evolved, so did popular music as a whole. We promise, you won't have to be a drummer to be interested in the evolution of marching bands, ragtime, rockabilly, jazz, and rock and roll! We travel with Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Ringo Starr, and Glass himself as we also show how he brings punk to jazz in his own hot band, Royal Crown Revue!

All this, plus some new, original comedy from Mr. Dave White himself comes your way Tuesday April 23 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, on Wed. April 24 the 90 minute show will be available as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes, through TEVO and Sticher.com, or on the player at--
www.audioentertainment.org/dwp

Coming in May: Author Jay Bonansinga takes you inside The Walking Dead and Rhoney Stanley remembers Owsley "Bear" Stanley, the soundman for the Grateful Dead and chemist of the best LSD of the '60s!

Keep up with entertainment news at the Dave White Presents Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dave-White-Presents/153177177306

TV Detectives, The Grass Roots, and New Old-Time Radio on Next Dave White Presents!

The April 9th Dave White Presents is Variety Entertainment with TV Detectives, The Grass Roots, and New Old-Time Radio!

James MacEachin is one of those actors who's not exactly a household name. But one look at
him and you'd recognize him from his many roles on Hawaii Five-O, All in the Family, Rockford Files, Mannix, Dragnet, and most famously as LT. Brock in the Perry Mason TV movies. He's also appeared in some high-profile feature films like Clint Eastwood's Play Misty For Me. MacEachin's multi-faceted career also includes being a novelist and award-winning champion of military veterans. (He's a decorated vet himself.)

On Tues. April 9, James MacEachin's insightful conversation with Dave White will entertain you with stories about John Wayne, Jack Lord, Clint Eastwood, Raymond Burr, Jack Webb, as well as his books and one-man play. You need more than that?

Well, past listeners of DWP may recall our interview with Dennis Provisor, a keyboardist who became one of The Grass Roots in 1972. On our next program, we're joined by Joel Larson, the drummer who was a Grass Root at the very beginning, left the band, and then re-joined in '72. In fact, Joel was the only Grass Root to have played in the two very different official line-ups responsible for hits like "Midnight Confessions," "Temptation Eyes," "Let's Live for Today," "Sooner or Later" and so many more. But Joel goes beyond the hits to talk about Barry McGuire, the Mamas and Papas, and just how all those cars, vans, and motorbikes are chosen and available for television and film sets.

But that's not all either! The next DWP is also going to keep you in Suspense! That's because KSAV.org is launching a new version of the Old-Time Radio classic that, well, to say more would be telling! If you're an OTR fan, this one's for you . . .

All this and the usual unusual humor of Dave White Presents debuts Tuesday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, on Wed.
Dee Wallace talks E.T. and Scream Queens, Geri Jewell talks Facts of Life and Deadwood on next Dave

Scream Queen Dee Wallace (E.T., The Howling) and comic actress Geri Jewell (The Facts of Life, Deadwood) headline the March 26 Dave White Presents!

Dee Wallace is best known for playing Elliott's Mom in E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial and being a "Scream Queen" in cult favorites like The Hills Have Eyes, The Howling, and Rob Zombie's reworking of Halloween. So far, she's had over 130 roles in TV and movies, including work in 85 films. And she shows no sign of stopping now!

But that only scratches the surface of what this Renaissance Woman has been doing all these years! On the next DWP, Dee talks with Wes Britton about E.T., some of her other favorite movie parts, but also her books, radio shows, and the healing classes she teaches in person and online. So this is in interview that goes beyond entertainment to offer some wisdom as well!

Speaking of wisdom, comic actress Geri Jewell has quite a bit of insight to share as well! Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at an early age, Geri became the first actress with a visible disability to have a regular role on television when she became part of the cast on The Facts of Life. Discovering celebrity was both a blessing and a curse, Geri spent many years working as a stand-up comic before returning to TV as Jewell in the HBO classic, Deadwood.

We promise—you don't want to miss this one! In an extensive interview with Wes Britton, Geri talks about it all—her big break meeting Norman Lear, how she was eased out of Facts of Life, and how she shaped her own role on Deadwood. Hear how she was discovered playing "Home on the Range" on her father's organ during a funeral service, how she knocked Big Bird's head off, why Robert Goulet couldn't convince her Mom he really was Robert Goulet . . . Folks, the lady is funny!

We'll mix these in-depth conversations with two very wise women with the usual unusual predictably unpredictable humor of DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, on Wed.
James Bond, Hawaii 5-O, Magic and Comedy Songs on next Dave White presents!

James Bond, Hawaii 5-O, Magic, and Comedy Songs on the Next Dave White Presents!

2002 was a banner year for actor Will Yung lee. For one thing, he starred as baddie Colonel Tan-Sun Moon in the 20th James Bond opus, Die Another Day. In the same year, People magazine named him one of the "50 Most Beautiful People." Five years later, People included him in their list of "The 15 Sexiest Men Alive."

Along the way, Lee has been busy on both the small and large screens. He's had roles in Witchblade, Bionic Woman, Electra, and as a recurring character on Hawaii 5-O. He'll also be the Silver Samurai in the Upcoming The Wolverine.

On Tuesday, March 12, Will will join Wes Britton to talk about his career, especially what it was like to work on the 40th anniversary 007 film and how his role as Sang Min on Hawaii 5-O was shaped. In addition, he's the star of a new DVD release called The Four Assassins and we'll go behind the scenes of that thoughtful character study.

Summing up the eight decades of magician and comedy songwriter Milt Larson's career is no easy task. As a teenager, he wrote comedy bits for Bob Barker's Truth or Consequences game show. Producer Ralph Edwards used Larson as the "distraction" for stars like Buster Keaton and Stan Laurel so they didn't know they were about to be profiled on This is Your Life.

But it was with magic where Larson earned his claim to fame, eventually earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and being named one of the 100 Most Influential Individuals in Magic by Magic Magazine. Among other accomplishments, he co-founded the members only Magic Castle club which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. On top of all that, since the late '50s, Larson has written hundreds of comedy songs with Richard Sherman, half of the legendary Sherman brothers who wrote all those hits for Disney.

In one of the liveliest conversations we've ever had, Milt will tell you all about the days of vaudeville, encounters with Cary Grant and Johnny Carson, his new memoir . . . in fact, trying to tell you what he'll talk about is a bit like trying to squeeze the Titanic into a shot glass. Oh, expect a generous sampling of the Sherman-Larson comic songs as well.

All this, along with some new "predictably unpredictable" radio comedy debuts on the next Dave White Presents, Tuesday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

As if by magic, on Wed. March 13, the 90 minute show will be available as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes, through TEVO and Sticher.com, or on the player at--
www.audioentertainment.org/dwp

Keep up with entertainment news at the Dave White Presents Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dave-White-Presents/153177177306

Law and Order, The Weather Girls, and House M.D. on the Next Dave White Presents!

The Ladies Take Over The Next Dave White Presents With Elizabeth Rohm (Law and Order), Martha Wash (The Weather Girls), and author Barbara Barnett talking House M.D.!

Elizabeth Rohm is best known for her TV roles as Assistant D.A. Serena Southerlyn On Law and Order and as detective Kate Lockley on Angel. Her mother was a script-writer for Guiding Light, so it's appropriate Rohm's own career started with work on One Life to Live before her two seasons on Angel, four years on Law and order, and recent projects like The Client List and In the Dark. She's also an activist and author on her most important role of them all—Motherhood.

Elizabeth is now trying her hand with comedy, starring in the upcoming The Whole Truth with Sean Patrick Flanery and Eric Roberts. She'll give you the inside story on the next DWP as well as share insights into her newest book, Object of My Conception.

There's probably a lot you didn't know about the song, "It's Raining Men." The music was written by Paul Shaffer. Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Cher, and Barbara Streisand all turned it down before a duo called Two Tons O Fun were talked into recording it. And they changed their name to The Weather Girls specifically for the 1982 hit.

One half of that duo, Martha Wash, comes to DWP to tell you how it all happened and how she and her partner, Izora Rhodes, laughed and laughed when they first heard the demo. But Martha has lots to say about the pair's previous work on the hits of Sylvester, her solo work with Black Box, and Top Ten singles like "Gonna Make You Sweat." Martha has a new album out called Something Good, and we have a great sample to play for you!

In 2008, House M.D. was the most watched show in the world, seen in 66 countries. A Top Ten hit for three seasons in the U.S., critical praise included five Primetime Emmys, two Golden Globes, a Peabody, and nine People's Choice Awards.

What made Hugh Laurie's portrayal of Dr. Gregory House, one of television's most misanthropic characters, must see TV? Barbara Barnett, author of Chasing Zebras: The Unofficial Guide to House, M.D., can tell you. Unlike many TV books, Chasing Zebras isn't a quick examination of the cast and production with an episode guide. Barbara gets into much more depth, analyzing the appeal of a drug-addicted genius and why we were fascinated by a man most of us wouldn't want to share dinner with.

All this, and the usual unusual "predictably unpredictable" humor of Dave White Presents is coming Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

On Wed.
The Comedy of Ray Stevens and How to Cheat on Slots on the Next Dave White Presents!

It's not often Dave White Presents showcases only one celebrity guest, but that's just what we're doing for our Special Ray Stevens Extravaganza next Tuesday, Feb. 12!

"The Streak." "Gitarzan." "Ahab the Arab." "Harry the Hairy Ape." "Along Came Jones." "Everything is Beautiful." "Mr. Businessman." "Misty." "Mississippi Squirrel Revival."

In 1957, Harold "Rags" Ragsdale signed his first recording contract thinking he might be the next doo-wop R&B hitmaker. But, under the name Ray Stevens, a song came out called "Jeremiah Peabody's Polyunsaturated Quick-Dissolving, Fast-Acting Pleasant-Tasting Green and Purple Pills." After that, the Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist not only kept topping the charts with novelty, Adult Contemporary, and country hits, Ray Stevens became a producer and A&R man for the likes of Brenda Lee, Patti Page, Dusty Springfield, and Dolly Parton.

On the next DWP, Ray shares an in-depth conversation with Wes Briton and not only talks about his musical history and legacy, but also his thoughts on the changing music business, especially his ongoing series of comic videos. To put it mildly, 78 year old Ray isn't slowing down! For example, there's his new 108 song The Encyclopedia of Recorded Comedy Music. And he has a brand-new television show, "Ray-ality TV." We'll get into all that and more—that's because DWP will also play the songs of Ray Stevens all through the 90 minute Tribute!

But we got other hot features for you as well! For example, Dave White has fun with Steve Squires of Squires and Corrie Slot Machines who shares the history of slots, how they operate, and how the odds are formulated. He'll tell you some of the methods used to cheat, schemes to try to disguise the machines as non-gambling devices, and of course how to win playing slot machines. That alone is worth your price of admission . . .

All this, and the usual unusual "predictably unpredictable" humor of DWP comes your way Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, on Wed. Feb. 13, the 90 minute Ray Stevens Special will be available as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes, through TEVO, Feedburner, and Sticher.com, or on the player at--
www.audioentertainment.org/dwp

So the comedy of Ray Stevens and how to cheat on the slots—what more can you ask in Variety Entertainment?

Keep up with entertainment news at the Dave White Presents Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dave-White-Presents/153177177306

Wes Britton's Reviews and Reviews for Jan. 2013

Wes Britton's January 2013 Reviews

It wasn'tplanned that way, but January 2013 was a return to spies for Wes Britton—

For example, not sure if it was me or the topic, but my Monday Jan. 14 interview on Barbara Barnett's "Let's Talk TV" BlogTalk Radio show about TV spies went over 88,000 listeners in two weeks! It's now archived at:
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/barbara-barnett/2013/01/15/lets-talk-tv-special-tv-spies-w-guest-wes-britton

My interview with guitarist Vic Flick about the upcoming sale of his Clifford Essex guitar—on which he played the legendary "James Bond Theme"—is posted at:
http://blogcritics.org/music/article/interview-axeman-vic-flick-tells-why/

Everyone talks about James Bond in terms of the actors who've played him—how about the directors? Wes Britton's "From Terence Young to Sam Mendes: The Many Faces Who Shot James Bond" is up at:
http://blogcritics.org/video/article/from-terence-young-to-sam-mendes/

In Argo, Ben Affleck plays Tony Mendez, the architect of the daring 1979 scheme. Read Wes Britton's review of the real story by Mendez, ARGO: How the CIA and Hollywood Pulled off the Most Audacious Rescue in History at:
http://goo.gl/IUPcG

Finally, one last spy book review—Tom DeMichael's JAMES BOND FAQ:
http://blogcritics.org/books/article/book-review-james-bond-faq-by/

Of course, I reviewed a few non-spy things in Jan. as well:

DVDs

Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime: The Tommy & Tuppence Mysteries (3 DVD boxed set)
http://goo.gl/Wl8Ew

CDs

Big Dipper: CRASHES ON THE PLATINUM PLANET.
http://blogcritics.org/music/article/music-review-big-dipper-crashes-on/

Deep Purple: Live in Paris 1975 (Remastered).
http://blogcritics.org/music/article/music-review-deep-purple-live-in/

On to February—

The Grass Roots, The Buckinghams, and a New Saint on the Next Dave White Presents!

The Grass Roots, The Buckinghams, and the Return of The Saint on the next Dave White Presents!

"Let's Live for Today." "Midnight Confessions." "Temptation Eyes." "Wait a Million Years." "Sooner or Later." "Where Were You When I Needed you?"

Between 1966 and 1972, The Grass Roots were a band that kept pumping out the hits. But did you know, after producer Lou Adler created the first group specifically to record the songs of P. F. Sloan and Steve Barri, that the entire band quit? Carrying on with the same name, a new line-up of The Grass Roots went on to sell 20 million records and entered the charts 21 times.

On Tues. Jan. 29, second generation member Dennis Provisor (keyboards, vocals, and songwriter) stops by DWP to share his memories of life on the road and in the studio. How did his incarnation of The Grass Roots evolve from a folk/rock ensemble into a group with more horns and R&B sounds? We'll share some stories behind the hits and play some for you!

"Kind of a Drag." "Hey Baby (They're Playing Our Song." "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy." "Susan." "Don't You Care?"

Speaking of a string of hits, from 1966 to 1970, Chicago's The Buckinghams also helped put the brass/rock sound at the top of the charts. In fact, in 1967, Billboard Magazine said they were "the most listened to band in America."

On the next DWP, founding member, Guitarist and vocalist Carl Giammarese talks with Wes Britton about the band's history—how they started out on local TV, how a famous producer helped shape their sound, why they broke up, and what they're doing now. Yep, Carl will tell you about where and when you can hear them in 2013!

It was back in 1928 when British author Leslie Charteris published the first novel featuring Simon Templar, better known as The Saint. By the time of his death in 1993, Charteris had penned 19 full-length novels, 48 novelettes, and 95 short stories. That's his English language books, not counting his works in French. Then there are all the Saint stories written by other authors, the various Saint radio series (including one with Vincent Price), TV shows (most notably starring Roger Moore), and the films featuring actors like George Saunders and Val Kilmer. Now, he's back!

On a recent visit to LA to check out the filming of a new Saint TV pilot, Ian Dickerson, Honorary Secretary of The Saint Club, graciously shared a few minutes to talk about the history of Simon Templar—his past, present and future. Who's the new Saint? When and where can we see him?

Find out on the next Dave White Presents, Tues. Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--

http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, on Wed. Jan. 30, the 90 minute show will be available as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes, through Feedburner, TEVO and Sticher.com, or on the player at--
www.audioentertainment.org/dwp

Keep up with entertainment news at the Dave White Presents Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dave-White-Presents/153177177306

Hear you then!

Blues with the son of Muddy Waters, Indy Pop with Big Dipper, and TV First Responders on next Dave W

Blues with the son of Muddy Waters, Indy Pop with Big Dipper, and TV's First Responders on Dave White Presents!

For Mud Morganfield, "Pop" was a "Hoochie Coochie Man" with a Mojo working pretty much all the time. Pop was, in fact, McKinley Morganfield, better known as the legendary Muddy Waters.

On Tues. Jan. 15, Mud Morganfield comes to Dave White Presents and reveals that he's much more than a chip off the old block. While he shares many, many stories about "Pop," he's got his own blues to sing. Many of his original tunes are now on his highly-praised 2012 album, SON OF THE SEVENTH SON. Like past DWP guest John Lee Hooker, Jr., Mud is a latecomer to taking his place in the sun, but we think you'll get hooked on "Blues in My Shoes" and his hard-charging "Loco Motor"—two of the tracks we'll play on DWP!

On the other end of the musical spectrum, between 1987 and 1992, Boston-based Indy rock band Big Dipper earned a lot of critical praise if not stratospheric album sales. In particular, their 1987 HEAVENS is regarded by many as one of the best Indy Pop albums of the era.

In fact, when their entire back catalogue was released in 2008, the response was so spectacular that 3 Big Dipper alumni decided to hit the road and record some new music. Four years later, CRASHES ON THE PLATINUM PLANET is the happy result.

On the next DWP, founding member Gary Waleik stops by to talk about all things Big Dipper from their jangly twin guitars, intricate harmonies, and extremely poetic lyrics written by three unique and quirky songwriters. We'll play two choice cuts including the rockin' "Guitar Named Desire: The Animated Sequel." Sound intriguing?

Of all the heroes we've seen on TV over the years, you might not think firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, lifeguards, forest rangers, and the Coast Guard were all that popular. But as actual fireman Richard Yokley chronicles in his FIRST RESPONDERS OF TELEVISION, these professionals have been there from the beginning, not only in supporting roles in police and medical dramas, but in shows like RESCUE 8, EMERGENCY!, SAVED, and RESCUE ME.

As Yokley tells Dave White, First Responders have been important in fictional shows and reality series all over the globe, and capturing what they do has been challenging and eye-opening for audiences and producers alike. Find out why on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

On Wed. Jan. 16, the 90 minute show will be available anytime you like as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes, through TEVO and Sticher.com, or on the player at--
www.audioentertainment.org/dwp

Future guests include Carl Giammarese of the Buckinghams, Dennis Provisor from the Grass Roots, and Ian Dickerson from The Saint Club with hot news about a new Saint pilot being shot in LA even as we speak!

So keep up with entertainment news at the Dave White Presents Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dave-White-Presents/153177177306

So get your Mojo working for a New Year of Dave White Presents!
Marshall Crenshaw, Ian Fleming, and Blowing up Casinos on next Dave White Presents!

Celebrate New Year's with Marshall Crenshaw, Ian Fleming, and Blowing Up Casinos in Lake Tahoe on the next Dave White Presents!

You probably know singer, songwriter, and guitarist Marshall Crenshaw best for his 1982 hit, "Someday, Someway." Did you know he played John Lennon in BEATLEMANIA, Buddy Holly in 1987's LA BAMBA, and that he wrote the title song for 2007's WALK HARD? Folks like Ronnie Spector, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Willis, Robert Gordon, and Bette Midler have all covered his songs.

On Jan. 1, 2013, Marshall will share all these stories and more on the first DWP of the New Year! Yep, he has new music he wants you to hear, and we'll play you some samples.

On Aug. 27, 1980, billionaire John Birges Sr. tried to extort $3 million from Harvey's Resort Hotel in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. To do this, Birges built one of the largest bombs the FBI had ever seen containing 1,000 pounds of dynamite. The bomb was the most complex improvised explosive device ever created, and a replica of it is still used in FBI training.

In his truth-is-stranger-than-fiction memoir, BOMBING HARVEY, John Birges Jr tells how his Dad suckered his two sons into joining him in the plot. In a surprising interview with Dave White, Birges discusses how he got involved and what he did and felt during and after it all went down. Boom!

If you hear the title, SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED: The Secret Files of I__ F______, Code Designate 17F and think it has something to do with the creator of 007, you're right! Author Aaron Cooley's very imaginative debut novel is where known history, speculative biography, and obvious literary invention meet. What did Ian Fleming do during World War II and what happened that might have inspired the character of James Bond? Some of Cooley's book includes some intriguing "maybes," some of what happens is simple entertaining playfulness.

All of this rockin' and explosive entertainment comes your way on The next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, Jan. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, on Wed. Jan. 2 the 90 minute show will become available for 24/7 access anytime you want it as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes, through TEVO and Sticher.com, or on the player at--
www.audioentertainment.org/dwp

Keep up with entertainment news at the Dave White Presents Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dave-White-Presents/153177177306

Happy Holidays from everyone, well, both of us at Dave White Presents!

Celebrate Christmas with Creedence Clearwater Revival and Gary U.S. Bonds on Next Dave White Present

Celebrate Christmas with Creedence Clearwater Revival and Gary U.S. Bonds on the next Dave White Presents!

"Proud Mary." "Suzie Q." "Bad Moon Rising." "Down on the Corner." "Lodi." "Born on the Bayou." "Have You Ever Seen Rain?"

From 1967 to 1972, few bands matched the success of Creedence Clearwater Revival for riding high on the charts with so many influential songs. Then, few top groups broke up so publicly and so controversially with repercussions lasting to the present day.

While many think CCR was essentially John Fogerty's band, Creedence Clearwater couldn't have been what it was without the bass of Stu Cook, rhythm guitar by Tom Fogerty, or the drums of Doug "Cosmo" Clifford. Since 1995, Cook and Clifford have been proving just that in Creedence Clearwater Revisited, a hot little band Clifford will tell you all about on the Tuesday, Dec. 18 DWP Christmas Special!

In a lengthy interview with Wes Britton, Clifford goes way back to talk about the early years of the original CCR on the road and in the studio. He shares his feelings about the band's break-up and what fans can enjoy when they see Creedence Clearwater Revisited in concert, especially on the upcoming Rock Legends Cruise. We'll play two songs for you, including the new CCR's version of Chuck Berry's "Run, Rudolf, Run"!

Speaking of rockin' Christmas music, no one can deliver a party better than Gary U.S. Bonds! Back in 1961, he delivered the goods when he topped the charts with his smash, Quarter to Three." Bonds went on to have nine Top 40 hits, including songs like "This Little Girl" with a little help from a gent named Bruce Springsteen.

Now, Gary has a new album called CHRISTMAS IS ON!, and he means it! On the next DWP, he'll tell you how it came together and shares some classic and funny rock stories. Did you know he fired the Beatles as his back-up band as, at the time, they weren't very good? Did you know he didn't move around on stage until Sam Cooke slapped him around and told him to put on a better show? We'll get into those anecdotes and more and play two samples from CHRISTMAS IS ON!—including a new party tune featuring Danny G, the original sax-man from "Quarter to Three"!

Of course, if it's Christmas on Dave White Presents, you gotta expect Dave's "predictably unpredictable" comedy and satire that'll warm your chestnuts and put bubbles in your eggnog!

It all happens Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

You can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, we won't put coal in your stockings! On Wed. Dec. 19, the 90 minute spectacular will be available forever as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes, through TEVO and Sticher.com, or on the player at--
www.audioentertainment.org/dwp

Keep up with entertainment news at the Dave White Presents Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dave-White-Presents/153177177306

Hear you then—and Happy Holidays—all of them—from all of us at Dave White Presents!

Tarzan and Black Oak Arkansas swing on next Dave White Presents!

Get Wild With Tarzan and Jim Dandy on the Next Dave White Presents!

In 1971, Black Oak Arkansas were pioneers of the Southern rock sound with songs like '"Hot and Nasty" and "Lord Have Mercy on My Soul." Featuring the growling lead vocals of Jim "Dandy" Mangrum, they had 10 chart-topping albums and a 1973 hit with their remake of "Jim Dandy to the Rescue."

Jim Dandy and Black Oak are still at it! For example, come January, they're part of the "Rock Legends Cruise" along with folks like Paul Rodgers, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Foreigner, and Kansas. On Tues. Dec. 4, Jim Dandy tells you all about it on DWP, and it's a wild one, we promise!

Speaking of wild, we got a double-dose of Tarzan for you to celebrate Lord Greystoke's 100th birthday! To begin, how's this for a book title—ME TARZAN, YOU TRAIN?

You might remember Denny Miller as Duke Shannon on WAGON Train and his guest roles in over 200 series like HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL, THE RIFLEMAN, V, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, and GILLIGAN'S ISLAND. In 1959, he starred in TARZAN, THE APE MAN. He's now the "World's Oldest Living Tarzan," a member of the PTA—Past Tarzan Association!

Denny is now also a personal trainer, hence the title of his new book. In a lively conversation with Dave White, Denny talks about Tarzan and how exercise without pain is what can keep you young and swinging in the trees.

Speaking of good book titles, Tracy Griffin's TARZAN: THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION is just that—a colorful celebration of 100 years with the Lord of the Jungle. On the next DWP, Tracy tells you all about Tarzan in the Edgar Rice Burroughs books, on film, stage, radio, pulp magazines, and the comics. You'll love this book—chock-full of beautiful art and photos of all those screen Tarzans—like Denny Miller!

All this and some new "predictably unpredictable" humor on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS swings your way Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

In case you're on safari that night, you can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, on Wed.
Dick Wagner brings Alice Cooper and Lou Reed to Thanksgiving on the next Dave White Presents!

Dick Wagner talks Alice Cooper and Lou Reed in the Thanksgiving Feast Edition of Dave White Presents!

The menu includes: Sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll.

That's pretty much the story of guitarist/songwriter Dick Wagner. Back in the '60s, he met and played with idols like Little Richard, Roy Orbison, and BB King. After a stint with the Michigan band, Frost, Wagner came to national prominence as half of the guitar duo on Lou Reed's Rock and Roll Animal. That gig lead to his becoming an axeman and songwriting collaborator with Alice Cooper for four albums. His resume now includes playing with, writing for, or producing Billy Joel, Meatloaf, Tina Turner, Tim Curry, Kiss, Aerosmith, Peter Gabriel, and Air Supply. Songs he wrote or co-wrote include "Only Women Bleed," "Welcome to my Nightmare," and "Shine Silently" with past DWP guest, Nils Lofgren.

Dick tells many of his stories in his new book, Not Only Women Bleed, Vignettes from the Heart of a Musician. He also shares some of them with you on the next DWP and we'll play you some new Alice Cooper and hot off the press Dick Wagner music we bet you haven't heard before . . .

Now, since this is a Thanksgiving special, we thought we'd throw in some healthy news before you get to gobbling everything in sight! So Dave White chats with Dr. Matt Mumber, an oncologist at the Harbin Clinic in Rome, GA. They'll discuss his book, Sustainable Wellness, which is all about how to develop a more individual method to promote health and wellbeing rather than a one size fits all fad style regimen.

For dessert, we'll explore the reasons old-fashioned vinyl albums are having such a revival. Andy Kamm, owner of the Record Connection in Ephrata, PA, reveals how records are not just for lovers of second-hand music anymore. Did you know that major and minor labels alike are putting out new releases on CD, as downloads, and on those old black grooves again? Why? And what is the annual Record Day all about?

All this, and all the trimmings, will be on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over--
www.KSAV.org

As always, you can pre-record the show at Digital Audio Recording (DAR)--
http://www.dar.fm/faq.php

But if you miss the premiere broadcast, on Wed. Nov. 21, the 90 minute show will be available as a podcast, mp3 download, from itunes, through TEVO and Sticher.com, or on the player at--
www.audioentertainment.org/dwp

Keep up with entertainment news at the Dave White Presents Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dave-White-Presents/153177177306
